Harbor East Relies on Meeco Sullivan to Help Revitalize Baltimore’s Inner Harbor

Warwick, NY—Ralph Morley, Senior VP National Sales for Meeco Sullivan, announced the recent completion of Baltimore’s newly renovated Harbor East Marina. Harbor East is a 180-slip marina with over 900 ft. of alongside dockage for larger yachts and is located in the heart of the city’s Harbor East neighborhood that includes 12 square blocks of fine dining restaurants, world-class hotels, hip lounges, quaint pubs, and the best of national and local shops. In addition to all that Harbor East has to offer, guests can walk to all the major attractions at the Inner Harbor, Fell’s Point and Little Italy including the National Aquarium and the Maryland Science Center.

Harbor East Marina’s goal was to renovate and upgrade a world-class marina that would further enhance the area’s revitalization and be attractive to both local boaters and transient boaters as a boating destination. Meeco Sullivan worked very closely with Harbor East and Oasis Marinas, who manages the facility, to create a marina design that included many unique/custom features to complement the area while being as functional and convenient as possible to boaters. The final design totaled 64,000 sq. ft. of floating docks and included:

  1. An upgraded/heavier Sullivan Timber System with IPE decking
  2. 18” steel piles
  3. All decking was recessed to provide cleaner edges and nicer look
  4. All fingers have custom shapes
  5. All docks are full length single loaded slips for much easier boat/dock access
  6. Cleats are all ships cleats
  7. Built to accommodate extensive utilities—200-Amp service to some docks, water, fire suppression system, pump out system at every other slip
  8. A 685 ft. yacht dock and a 268’ yacht dock that are 16’ wide (two 8’ sections bolted together)
  9. Meeco Sullivan built all the “party pads” and social spaces that are located throughout the marina. The main 50×60 party pad is a covered area with electricity, tables, seating et al for large groups to use. These are permanent and attached to the docks to accommodate both boat club groups and regular customers.

Eric Bradley, VP of Operations for Oasis Marinas commented that “We had very high expectations for this marina and we couldn’t be happier with the quality of the customized timber system Meeco Sullivan delivered. From our first visit to their Warwick, NY facility, through the design and planning phase with their team and the entire installation they exceeded our expectations. Everyone is raving about the newly renovated marina and how well it fits with the entire Harbor East atmosphere.”

The design includes several social areas with utilities and seating for slip-holders and visiting boat clubs.

Dissen & Juhn, the marine install contractor, and Meeco Sullivan worked very closely to carefully coordinate delivery/installation schedules and complete each phase on schedule. A nearby off-site staging area was used for delivery of all docks and they were barged to the marina for installation as needed.

All of the docks were built at Meeco Sullivan’s Warwick, NY facility. The contract was awarded in January 2017 with Phase 1 docks delivered in April 2017, Phase 2 docks  delivered in early 2018 and installation was completed in May 2018. Click here to learn more about Harbor East Marina.

Suntex Marinas Chooses Meeco Sullivan for Vero Beach Marina Expansion

Ralph Morley, Senior VP National Sales for Meeco Sullivan, announced the recent completion of the expansion at the Suntex Vero Beach Marina, which is part of Grand Harbor, Vero Beach’s largest upscale residential community on the Indian River and minutes from the Atlantic Ocean. The expansion added 23 open slips from 40’ to 60’, with two 120’ T-heads and 300’ of connecting docks, giving the full-service marina a total capacity of 155 boats from 35’ to 120’ plus a 150’ face dock for transient boaters.
This is the fourth marina project Meeco Sullivan has completed for Suntex in 2018. They chose the Sullivan Timber System with IPE decking, polyethylene floats and piling anchors. The project also included a customized floating dock to accommodate the weight of the electrical substation. The first docks were delivered on-time in early May and completed by mid-June for new summer boaters. Given the limited and tight access areas around the marina, Meeco Sullivan had to carefully plan and manage the dock delivery and off-loading process for everything to be completed on schedule.
This is Suntex Marinas second project with Meeco Sullivan in Florida. Sam Chavers, Suntex Regional Vice President commented that “We are very pleased with the quality of Meeco Sullivan’s docks and their customer service – as well as their team’s professionalism throughout the project. They take great pride in their work and delivered everything on-time as promised.”

526’ wave attenuator with covered 90’ slips includes anchor pilings and a 6’ submerged wavewall.

McAlester, OK—Ralph Morley, Senior VP & Sales Manager for Meeco Sullivan announced the completion of the latest expansion at WindRiver Marina on Tellico Lake. WindRiver is a lakefront and golf community located minutes from Knoxville Tennessee.

WindRiver selected Meeco Sullivan for their initial marina construction in 2006 and has put their trust in Meeco Sullivan for their last three marina expansions in 2015, 2016, and 2017. With the latest expansion just completed, WindRiver now includes 128 covered 30’, 40’, 60’, and 90’ slips, a 526’ wave attenuator with 90’ covered slips and an open Courtesy Dock and Fuel Center.

Mark Fronczek, WindRiver’s VP of Development, has overseen all the expansion construction with Meeco Sullivan and couldn’t be happier with their product quality, how easy they are to work with, and their ability to deliver everything on time. Mark commented that “WindRiver is a first-class development, so our residents have very high expectations. Meeco Sullivan’s team has been a pleasure to work with and they keep meeting and exceeding our expectations. Our residents couldn’t be happier with the aesthetics, functionality and durability of our floating covered docks.”

All docks are Meeco Sullivan’s galvanized steel truss design with aggregate concrete deck tiles, polyethylene floats, and vented metal roof. The 526’ wave attenuator/covered 90’ slips includes anchor pilings and a 6’ submerged wavewall — specifically designed to dispel boat traffic waves to protect the marina while providing slip occupants an amazing view of Tellico Lake’s main channel.

Jim Helderle, Meeco Sullivan’s Southeast Region Sales Manager was involved from the design phase through final installation and noted that “Our team worked very closely with the WindRiver team to ensure the dock designs and the wave attenuator design fit their harbor layout for maximum future expansion. Plus, all installation scheduling was properly coordinated to meet the promised completion date. It was a great overall team effort.”

Storm Damaged Pleasant Harbor Marina Relies on Meeco Sullivan for Renovation

After Pleasant Harbor Marina’s old Galvafoam docks were devastated by a micro-burst storm that passed through the Phoenix area last summer, they turned to Meeco Sullivan for help with the planning, design and construction of a $2.6 million renovation and replacement project.

All docks will be replaced with Meeco Sullivan’s galvanized steel docks with aggregate concrete decking. The first docks arrived as scheduled in late January after extensive engineering and construction planning by the Meeco Sullivan project management team. “This has been a challenging project from the beginning because of the hidden damage to much of the marina superstructure, and the insurance requirements involved,” said J. Mills, Meeco Sullivan Western Region Sales Manager. “Our engineering and construction teams worked closely with all the stakeholders to ensure that the marina will be better than new when finished.”

The renovation is expected to take three months and will include replacement of three complete docks with more than 130 slips ranging in size from 30’ to 95’ and the partial replacement and repair of the marina’s 1200’ long floating bridge, as well as major repairs to other areas of the 620-slip marina. Pleasant Harbor’s fuel dock will also be relocated, and sections of the marina’s anchoring system will be redesigned and replaced to help stormproof the docks for the future. Meeco Sullivan Helps Provincetown Marina Accommodate Large Yachts

Provincetown Marina on Cape Cod

Warwick, NY: Located at the tip of Cape Cod in Provincetown, MA the Provincetown Marina serves as a major vacation spot for transient boaters in the New England area and has become an attractive area for mega yachts. Cape Cod is one of the most beautiful boating areas in New England, but it has had a severe shortage of marina space making it extremely hard and expensive to find boat slips. Chuck Lagasse, the owner of Provincetown Marina, saw this need and made a commitment to increase Provincetown Marina’s slip capacity with the help of Meeco Sullivan and SF Marine Systems.

Provincetown Marina contracted with Harbor Engineering to handle the design/engineering work required to accommodate larger vessels and the expansion plan was phased over two years. The design required extremely rugged and strong docks able to handle the tough weather conditions and larger vessels while being as cost-effective as possible. The combination of heavy concrete attenuators with extra-heavy timber fingers was a great fit and included 60-90 uncovered slips, depending on the boat size, primarily geared to accommodate 30’-100’ pleasure boats but the design provided the flexibility to handle up to 400’ mega yachts.

Meeco Sullivan provided all the heavy-duty timber finger docks with IPE decking ranging in size from 4’ x 30’ up to 8’ x 80’ that were fabricated in their Warwick, NY facility. Most of the fingers have internal removable gate pile guides because they are removed and stored on land in the winter. All the main walkways and face docks are SF Marine System concrete attenuators.

Chuck Lagasse commented that “We made a big commitment to this expansion project and we couldn’t have asked for a better team to work with. Harbor Engineering, Meeco Sullivan and SF Marine Systems all worked together seamlessly to meet our expectations and deliver everything on time.” To learn more visit Provincetown Marina.

Buffalo’s Lake Erie Marina–NY Park System’s Largest Marina Completed on Schedule

1063 slips range in size from 24′ to 50′

Buffalo, NY– In March of 2016 Meeco Sullivan was awarded one of the largest contracts ever by the New York State Parks System. The City of Buffalo Inner Harbor Development Corporation’s plans for revising and reconfiguring the existing Lake Erie Marina made it the largest full service marina in the New York State Parks System with 1063 slips. Meeco Sullivan delivered over 148 tractor trailer loads of docks on schedule from its McAlester, OK facility so the marina could be ready for its scheduled Spring 2017 opening.

Safe Harbor Development, the operator of Lake Erie Marina, replaced all of the existing floating docks and walkways with Meeco Sullivan’s galvanized steel frame system with composite decking and encapsulated flotation and will include slip sizes from 11′ x 24′ to 20′ x 50′ along with 30′, 34′ and 40′ slips to accommodate the most popular boat sizes in the area. The Lake Erie Marina also included:
A new fuel pier and courtesy docks with ADA accessibility
  • Modern fueling stations and a new ship store
  • A new PWC dock
  • A newly renovated full service restaurant
  • A newly renovated onsite Operations, Management and Boater Services office
  • A new 400 ft. wind and wave attenuator to protect fueling and courtesy slips at the mouth of the harbor

Meeco Sullivan’s sales, design and engineering teams worked closely with Safe Harbor Development to achieve maximum space utilization while providing the most functional, updated slip sizes and amenities available at any marina in the region. Since all of the new floating dock systems will be permanent, incorporating the right anchoring system was a major part of the design effort. A chain and cable anchoring system with driven piles beneath the water was an integral part of the marina design to withstand the extreme temperature changes and water flow conditions while maintaining a clean, aesthetic look. Meeco Sullivan handled all aspects of the design, engineering and production of the floating structures and local contractors handled the installation of the docks and utilities.

Floating docks were constructed of Meeco Sullivan’s galvanized steel frame truss system with composite decking
